this is an album i worked on between 2007 and 2011 that i put on the long finger for a number of reasons. i just recently found some time to revisit the material and it felt like a good moment to put some smacht on it and finally get it out there. i was going to write a big long piece about where my head was at at the time and my reasons for not putting it out but i decided to just let the music speak for itself.

rather then go back into the sessions for any of the tracks i compiled it strictly from stereo mixes and rough bounces from the time i was working on it, the last one dated October 10 2011. this comes with some inherent sonic issues but mark at calyx really helped iron them out with the mastering. i think it sounds like a proper album now and there's always an excitement and urgency about rough mixes that sometimes gets lost in the final mix.

it features two tracks(8/10) i wrote with my brother robbie around the time we made music as spilly walker and katie kim on lead vocals on 'ever fall in love'. there were several versions of that one with me singing but i thought katie did a better job. conor creaney did some mpc stuff at the end of 'home again'.

it's augmented by three tracks(4/5/6) i made with ken mchugh around 2002 after 'the big romance'. they just seemed to fit. hard to believe 'song for a new apartment is almost 20 years old. still sounds pretty fresh to my ears. it's also one of my dad's favourite songs of mine. he's asked me many times over the years 'when are you putting out that this-is-love-that-lasts-a-long-time one?'

there were multiple completely different versions and an insane amount of mixes of so many of these tracks, years of work, it was a challenge to pick the best ones. i kind of wish the bukka white sample wasn't on 'to my feet' but it remember the night i mixed that version and i was never so excited about that song. it's still one of my favourite things i've done. and i love bukka white.
